Job Summary

* Reception staff work within the practice call centre and on the front counter

* Offer general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and visitors, either in person or via the telephone

* Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way

* Undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the Practice including the provision of secretarial and clerical support to clinical staff and other members of the practice team

* Facilitate effective communication between patients, members of the primary health care team, secondary care and other associated healthcare agencies

Location: Harrow

Temporary: Expected to last 2 months with possible extension

Hours per week: 37.5 hours per week

Salary: £10 per hour (PAYE inclusive)

Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities to be undertaken by members of the reception team may include any or all of the items in the following lists. Duties may be varied from time to time under the direction of management, dependent on current and evolving practice workload and staffing levels:

Reception

* Provide a welcoming effective and efficient reception service to patients and visitors

* Opening up/locking-up of practice premises and maintaining security in accordance with Practice protocols

* Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms as per rota

* To act as a chaperone for patients as required

* All visitors must be signed in

* Assist with answering incoming/group calls

* Ensure that consent is checked when issuing printed prescriptions

* Ensure Third Party consent is completed appropriately

* Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary registration

* The prescription box must be retained in alphabetical, prescription protocol must be maintained

* Maintain appropriate room temperatures using the Aircon facilities

* Visitor toilets should be checked routinely

* Wet floor signage must be displayed to adhere to Health and Safety guidelines

* Ensure consent is recorded for all patient related information

* Ensure patients with special requirements/needs are reported to the clinician

* Support clinicians with emergency situations

* Provide new patients with the correct registration documents, check and ensure forms are completed adequately for processing

* Provide patients with forms to request change of address, ensure forms are correctly completed for admin team to process

* Keep the reception area, notice-boards and leaflet dispensers tidy and free from obstruction and clutter

* Advice patients of relevant charges for private (non General Medical Services) services, accept payment and issue receipts for same

* Maintain adequate stock of patient forms
